Get Light When You Need It

Do you have an attic or other rarely-used room that has a pull-string light?  Your most commonly used rooms probably have light switches in them, but you may have some rooms with these old style lights.  You don't have to fumble around in the dark any more until you get the light turned on - First Alert now makes a motion sensor light.

What's So Great About This Light Sensor?

This motion-sensing light doesn't need batteries, and is simple to install.  All you have to do is screw it into any ordinary light socket.  When you enter the room, it will sense that you are coming in, and will turn on.  As you leave, the light will stop sensing motion and will automatically turn off.

This motion sensor will detect motion in a 360º pattern.  A diagram on the socket will let you know which direction to point at the door (one part of the sensor does have a stronger response).

This light sensor was featured in the January issue of Good Housekeeping.

What You Should Know About This Socket

  • This light socket does not work with CFL lights.
  • This socket is to be used with bulbs ranging from 25 to 100 watts.
  • This product comes with a three year limited warranty.

Save Money While Getting Light

If you have a closet, attic, garage, or attic with a pull-string light, it can be annoying to not have a light switch for the room.  Hiring an electrician to install a light can be expensive though.  This product can save you quite a bit of money.

Some people have had trouble with the motion sensing light socket.  Most of the people who have had trouble with this product have tried to use this product in spaces where the light had a limited view of the door.  Because this product works by detecting motion, if there is a limited view of this light socket from the doorway or other location where you will be moving, this product may not work as well as it is intended.

This may be a solution to a problem I have in my gallery. We have a bathroom in the basement that has a pull string light, and you have to walk about 5 steps into the room to find it in the dark. Bad enough for me, but really bad for my customers. I will have to check into this. :)
